Vendy Awards Internship
Launched in New York City in 2005, the Vendy Awards is a street
showcasing the most popular food vendors in the city. It is an intense cook-
off event. From its modest beginnings, in an East Village garage, the NYC
Vendys now attracts 2,000 attendees and has expanded to Philadelphia and LA
and will will be expanding into 2-3 additional cities in 2013. The Vendy
Awards recognize the culinary contributions of mobile food vendors, and serve
as fundraisers that support the nonprofit, the Street Vendor Project
Our work is varied and hands-on. Interns will be assisting the Managing
Director with all aspects of planning. The ideal candidate possesses strong
research and writing skills, is highly organized, motivated and creative, has
a positive attitude, is a self-starter and has a passion for diverse cultures
and food. Additionally applicants with web and design skills, and/or previous
experience with event planning, marketing, sponsorship and/or public
relations, are highly desirable.
Specifics of the internship include:
Administrative Support- Support the Managing Director in administrative tasks
Research-Focusing primarily on new markets--research regarding
site locations, potential sponsors, street food scenes, etc..
Event Planning/Logistics- Support the Managing Director in the planning of the
Vendy Awards. Attend site visits, venue meetings, assist in the logistics of
organization of the event. Help project manage the Vendy Awards from the set
up and planning of the event to the organization of voting, lining up food
trucks, submitting government/official documents and permits, etc.
Sponsorship/Finance- Assist in developing sponsorship materials and performing
outreach to potential sponsors. Assist in making budgets and calculating costs
for the event.
Marketing/PR- Assist in the marketing and public relations of the Vendy
Awards. Assist in managing the social marketing aspect of the Vendy Awards
through Facebook, Twitter and other social media channels.
This is an unpaid internship position. A minimum commitment of 10 - 15 hours a
week for a minimum of 3 months is required.
