Position: Assistant Farm CSA Manager
School Lunch Farm & CSA, located on a 70 acre farm in Northern NJ. School Lunch Farm is looking for motivated Assistant Farm Manager to work on the farm beginning April of the 2013 season. This job is seasonal and will end in late fall and begin again the following March 2014. School Lunch Farm is seeking a highly motivated individual with a minimum of 2 full years experience in organic vegetable production. The Assistant Farm Manager in partnership with the farmer owner will be responsible for greenhouse work, fieldwork, CSA distribution, and farmer’s market. Assistant Farm Manager will work with apprentices, interns and volunteers.
Responsibilities will include:
Mechanical tillage, soil fertility, direct seeding, transplanting, cultivation, irrigation management, disease & pest control, crop rotation, routine equipment maintenance and daily record keeping. The ideal candidate would be available to start in March/April
2013 and have excellent mechanical skills, and valid drivers license, and the ability to lift at least 50lbs.
Daily activities will include, activities such as:
• Seed starting in greenhouse, thinning seedlings, and nutrient
application. Direct sowing in fields.
• Bed preparation: rock picking, cultivating, back pack flaming,
weeding, and working with drip irrigation
• Foliar spraying of crops for feeding and pest control
• Harvesting vegetables, cleaning, and storage
• Tractor safety, tractor and implement maintenance, implement hook up
• Farm Maintenance: mowing, tractor ways and grass borders, weed
wacking, building, repairs, painting
• Working with apprentices, interns and volunteers—adults and children

School Lunch Farm Vision:
School Lunch Farm will create healthier soil and community by growing nutrient dense organic vegetables and fruits, heirloom and specialty crops for community supported agriculture shareholders, schools, low-income community members, farm markets, and restaurants.
School Lunch Farm will also be an educational center that will bridge the school garden programs of the 501c3 NPO Slow Food Northern NJ. Slow Food Northern NJ school garden programs educate children to be stewards of the earth through organic vegetable garden programs with integrated curriculum that foster children’s understanding of where food comes from, how it’s grown, and the effect food has on the environment.
