About the Position
The New Lands Farm Marketing Specialist will be conducting hands-on assistance to new refugee farmers wishing to sell their fresh vegetables grown on our farm site and additional garden sites. Refugee farmers represent diverse backgrounds and skills. The Marketing Specialist will be working directly with New Lands Farm staff to offer one-on-one marketing assistance and increase refugee farmer product sales.
The Marketing Specialist will support the Program Coordinator and refugee farmers/gardeners in the following:
Ø Facilitating the establishment of a farmer committee and formalize the New Lands Farm Marketing Collective
Ø Identifying and/or developing new market opportunities for the refugee farmers
Ø Training farmers on marketing techniques and options
Ø Supervising farmers in the field during harvest and post-harvest preparations
Ø Staffing support at farmers markets/farm stand/mobile market including: display assistance, pricing assistance, coupon processing, and transportation
Ø Wholesale coordination including: taking orders, finding buyers, identifying availability of produce in field, packaging, delivery, invoicing, tracking payments
Ø CSA coordination including: member outreach, member intake, promotion, distribution/delivery, quality control, and weekly share formation
Ø Tracking market data, sales, and cash flow
Ø Training farmers on use of EBT and various market coupons from WIC and MDAR
Ø Contributing to New Lands Farm website and social media outlets
Ø Supporting value-added product ventures of participating farmers/ business starts
Ø Strong background in growing food (2 years on-farm experience preferred)
Ø Passion for promoting local agriculture
Ø Experience in networking, sales and marketing farm products (2 years preferred)
Ø Comfortable interacting with clients from diverse cultural backgrounds
Ø Ability to work in adverse weather conditions and lift 50 pounds
Ø Strong record keeping, organization and computer skills
Ø Interest and experience with social media and other promotion/marketing tools
Ø Applicant must be a team player willing to take on additional tasks in the busiest parts of the year
Locations: 2 positions – one in West Springfield, MA and one in Worcester, MA. Full time with benefits. Compensation TBD.
