Food Access & Health Communication Intern
Seeking a Food Access & Health Communication Intern
The Iowa Food Systems Council’s Food Access & Health Work Group (FAHWG) is a vibrant statewide network of more than 250 individuals and partners (food and nutrition assistance program administrators, emergency food system providers, public health professionals, community-based organizers and food system stakeholders) focused on cultivating a diverse and just food system that eliminates hunger, increases access to nutritious food, and improves the health of all Iowans. A signature project of FAHWG is the Cultivate Iowa social marketing campaign that promotes food gardening and produce donation across the state.
The FAHWG is seeking a communications intern to assist with electronic communications with partners, media and the public. Responsibilities would include assembly of partner newsletters, preparation of announcements and invitations, managing distribution lists, assisting with social media and website initiatives and writing and distributing press releases. The communications intern would work closely with the FAHWG conveners and the FAHWG Leadership Team.
Skills needed for this unpaid position are excellent writing and design skills, working knowledge of email service applications (Benchmark, ConstantContact, MailChimp), Microsoft Excel, and ability to work independently. Experience working in food and nutrition assistance, emergency feeding, public health, food systems or public policy is preferred but not required. The internship would work remotely in Iowa, however applicants from outside of Iowa are welcome to apply.
If you are seeking experience in working with a dynamic statewide community of practice and an opportunity to network with food, nutrition and health organizations across Iowa, apply today.
