Skarsgard Farms is a regional producer and distributor of organic produce in Albuquerque, NM. We farm 40 acres of certified organic land in the South Valley of the Rio Grande . We distribute our weekly Harvest Boxes to over 2000 households in the region through our free home delivery service or at pickup locations.
We are currently developing an urban agriculture center at our new warehouse that will become the heart of our education and community events. In preparation for this we are hiring a Farm Education and Public Relations intern who we hope to grow into a full time staff member.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Coordinate farm tours and events
Coordinate weekly educational events for our members (cooking demonstrations, showcase of local products, compost demos, canning demos, etc.)
Build and maintain relationships with school teachers in the region
Become a centralized resource for farm education, helping connect teachers with farms
Organize farm camps
Document events and publish on social media sites
Table health fairs and other events
Passion for working with kids and adults.
Excellent interpersonal communication skills, both written and verbal.
Excellent public speaking abilities.
Excellent organizational skills.
Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
Knowledge of farming is not necessary for this position. The purpose of the initial internship is for you to learn how our specific business operates by working at our farm, our distribution warehouse, and selling at farmer’s markets.
A flexible schedule since we have events throughout the week and weekend.
This is a full time position. As an intern you will receive a stipend of $350 every 2 weeks. You will also receive a weekly Harvest Box of organic produce. Housing is not provided.
