Community Harvest Project, a non-profit organization located in North Grafton, MA with a mission to build an engaged and healthier community by bringing volunteers together to grow fresh fruits and vegetables, seeks a part-time Farm Assistant to begin immediately.

 

The Community Harvest Project (CHP) Farm Assistant will be responsible for assisting in all farming operations in North Grafton, MA. Currently CHP is farming 13 acres on Brigham Hill Community Farm and White’s Farm.  Farming includes various vegetables and .5 acres of high bush blueberries. Expansion to additional acreage is possible and highly likely over the next few years.

 

The Farm Assistant will work with the Farm Manager in all vegetable production areas including IPM spraying and maintenance of all CHP equipment. Farm Assistant must have the ability to lift 60 pounds. Experience in farming, farm equipment and/or heavy equipment operation preferred. Interest and commitment to Community Harvest Project’s overall mission and purpose.

 

Job responsibilities include assisting with the following:

  • Maintaining log books for Maintenance, repair, fertilizer, spraying and harvest
  • Repairing and maintaining all farm equipment
  • Greenhouse and hoop house operations
  • Plant transplanting schedule
  • Field preparations including tilling, fertilizing, irrigation and mulch
  • Setup, testing and maintenance of automated irrigation system
  • Fruit netting maintenance
  • Tomato staking and tying
  • Oversight of mowing and weeding
  • Monitoring of harvest including daily harvest schedule
  • Oversight of produce handling and shipment
  • Special event setup and take down
  • Winterizing all of the above areas
  • Able to lift 60 pounds
  • Supervision of seasonal help
  • Repair and maintenance of all farm equipment

 Flexible schedule based on seasonal task variation (20 hours/week 9 months). Experience in farming, farm equipment and/or heavy equipment operation preferred. Annual salary range $9,500-$10,500 depending on experience.
