Cooperative Development Associate —Job Description
Part Time, Temporary position through October, 2014
Location: Davis, CA
California Center for Cooperative Development (CCCD) is accepting applications for a part time, temporary Cooperative Development Associate position. CCCD is a 501c3 non-profit that provides education and technical assistance to farmers, ranchers, and consumers to support their efforts to start consumer, worker, and agricultural cooperatives. We are located in Davis, CA with projects throughout California, Arizona, and Utah. Candidate will work from CCCD’s Davis office and report to the Assistant Director.
CCCD is a charitable non-profit that promotes cooperatives as a vibrant business model to address the economic and social needs of communities. CCCD fulfills this mission by:
o Educating the public, community institutions and government agencies to foster and promote an understanding of cooperatives
o Identifying and disseminating information about successful practices and models for cooperatives
o Encouraging cooperation and coordination among various types of cooperatives
o Providing technical assistance and education for the development of cooperatives to best address economic and social needs
The position will support projects that involve starting agricultural and food cooperatives and focus on business planning and organizing agricultural cooperatives for small scale immigrant or refugee farmers who speak English as a second language. The agriculture projects include fruit, vegetables and meat producers in separate projects and includes working with local technical assistance provider partners for each project.
Provide support for:
- completing market research
- completing feasibility studies, including conducting producer surveys, interviews with key informants, and building financial pro formas
- organizing and marketing workshops
- supporting the development of training materials (presentations and written materials)
- preparing progress reports for funders
- other related duties
o 2 years of experience working in agriculture, fresh fruit/veg distribution, or retail food sectors
o Experience conducting research including designing written surveys and interviews
o Strong communication and presentation skills
o High degree of competency using Excel, Powerpoint, and Word
o Self-motivated, highly organized team player
o An entrepreneurial and collaborative spirit
o BA or MS in Ag Econ, Managerial Economics, Community Development, or other field related to food or agriculture.
- Understands cooperative business principles
- Familiar with different methods of meeting facilitation and decision-making processes
- Familiar with GAP and GHP standards
- Speaking and writing in: Korean, Hmong, or Arabic
- Familiar with InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator
- Experience in grant writing and reporting
Hours: Part time; schedule is flexible. Includes some travel. There is a possibility that the position can move from its temporary status, depending on funding.
Salary: $1,500 – $2,200 per month depending on experience
