SustainAbility Farm cultivates an environment where people with autism and other developmental disabilities, and those without disability, can work together to create a self-sustaining organic farm that will be supportive of their vocational, recreational, social, and residential needs. SustainAbility Farm is in it’s third season of production for its CSA community, and is seeking to expand its reach.
Familiarity and fluidity with a range of farm skills required. Farm tasks include, but are not limited to: seeding, transplanting, bed preparation, harvesting, weeding, and irrigation. As well as the more outreach oriented work of CSA organizing and teaching/skill sharing.
Qualifications: We are looking for someone who can take on a dual role: as a co-farmer, and as a person who is able to interface sensitively with, and teach differently abled farmers and their support staff. At least two years of farm experience preferred, and an interest in people and diverse ways of living. Applicant must have a car to be able to make supply runs, etc.
Location: A one acre plot at the Planting Fields Arboretum State Historic Park, Oyster Bay, NY (Long Island)
Time Commitment: Two 8hr days per week, one of which might be a weekend day.
