Main Street West Path Ribbon Cutting
Monday, October 18, 2010 @ 12:15 p.m.

Calling all walkers, runners and bikers! Join representatives from UNH Energy and Campus Development, Healthy UNH, Busby Construction, NHDOT and Town of Durham, in celebrating the completion of this new gateway path from UNH West Edge to downtown Durham.

Kick-off Location: In partnership with Healthy UNH's Fall into Fitness event we will begin at the entrance to the new path, located in the West Edge-Lot S parking lot.

Route: Starting at West Edge, we will continue on the new Main Street West Path, and hold the ribbon cutting in front of the University of New Hampshire sign. From there we will walk towards the North Drive roundabout, and then proceed on the path until the Field House and end our inaugural journey at the UNH Dairy Bar! Please see the walk route map.

Transportation: If you are already on campus and want to join us, please hop on a UNH Campus Connector shuttle on Main Street that is labeled West Edge. It will drop you just across from the entrance to the path. For those from off campus, parking is available in the West Edge lot for UNH Faculty, Staff, students and guests (for this event).

Come join us for a 20 minute walk during lunch and experience the new Main Street West Path!

The Main Street West project includes roadway reconstruction and resurfacing, development of sidewalks/multi-use path and bicycle lanes along Main Street (west of rail tracks) and NH 155A approaching UNH campus and downtown. Coordinated UNH design and funding will create a roundabout at the junction of North Drive and Main Street and reconstruct North Drive. The project will create safe bike and walking routes from UNH core campus to West Edge neighborhood.

Design was completed in fall 2009 and construction began in spring 2010.The project was completed on September 29, 2010.

The full corridor investment is projected to be $1.3 million including design and construction. Over $900,000 of that total is provided by the Federal Highway Administration through the Transportation Enhancements program and the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). Of the US DOT investment, $758,000 is 100% federal funding is provided thru ARRA. The University and Town of Durham provide the balance of local project funding including full funding for the roundabout and university exclusive funding for renovation of North Drive.
