Project Description
Parsons Hall, which primarily houses the Chemistry Department and a few related programs, will be undergoing renovations commencing after the UNH graduation in May 2009. The current building was built in two phases, both in the late 1960's and is comprised of four, 2-story wings with a I-story mechanical penthouse on each wing. The wings, starting from northeast moving counterclockwise to the southeast are called, the Iddles Wing, the North Wing, the West Wing and the South Wing. The Iddles Wing is only planned for minor upgrades in terms of accessibility and life safety systems as part of this project. Also a 10-person meeting room is planned for the Library. The north, west and south wings are planned for full interior demolition and renovation. It is estimated that 116,700 of the approximate 146,000 gross square feet will be renovated as part of this project.
The renovated facility will accommodate wet teaching laboratories, research labs, the University Instrumentation Center (a shared campus resource for various equipment including 3 NMR's) and general classroom space. It will also include office space for faculty, researchers, technicians, postdoctoral fellows, and student researchers, as well as common spaces such as a conference rooms and break-out spaces.
No significant exterior renovations are planned for the existing exterior shell. Windows, doors and masonry will remain as is. The existing roof will be patched as required, but not fully replaced.
