Design and Construction
Fairchild Hall
Project Description
Complete renovation of dormitory building originally constructed in 1915.
As with the original, the renovated Fairchild Hall will provide dormitory-style student housing for 126 students in 15 singles, 24 doubles and 21 triples. Common areas will include a recreation lounge, three small study lounges, as well as kitchen and laundry facilities. The renovated Fairchild Hall will have air conditioning and will be handicapped accessible with the inclusion of an elevator and a modified central entry. The project also includes roofing replacement, exterior masonry repairs, modifications to the south façade, perimeter building drainage improvements, as well as installation of an energy-saving heat recovery unit to capture and re-entrain latent energy from the bathroom exhaust air.
Construction completion is slated for late-spring 2008. The Design/Build team includes DiMella Shaffer Associates of Boston and Cutler Associates of Worchester, Massachusetts. This is the same team that constructed the new Gables Student Apartments.
