Course Proposal Process
Thank you for your interest in teaching in the Discovery Program at UNH. Faculty members will seek approval for courses from the following individuals and units in the order listed below:
- Department Chair
- College
- Discovery Committee
- VPAA (new courses only)

- UNH Course Approval Form (for all new and substantially altered courses) Note: You may need to click on options and enable active content.
- Discovery Course Proposal Form (for conversions of prior Gen Ed courses to Discovery OR for new Discovery courses).

- Writing Intensive Form (to propose a WI course in Discovery)

Detailed Instructions for paper submission
To convert an existing General Education course to Discovery:
Please note: If you are making substantial alterations to your course, please see the instructions below for new courses.
- Complete Discovery Course Proposal Form.
- Attach syllabus and catalogue description.
- Attach any other documents you feel might be helpful in evaluating your course.
- If your course is not currently WI (Writing Intensive), but you would like it to be in the future, complete and attach the WI Form. If course is currently WI in Gen Ed, WI Form is not needed.
- If you would like your course designated as Inquiry, complete the Inquiry Form.
- If you would like your course designated as meeting a lab requirement, complete the Lab Form.
- Secure your department chair's endorsement.
- Request that the chair forward the proposal to the Office of the Dean for review.
- College or School forwards to the Discovery Committee.
To propose an existing course *not* currently approved for General Education
Please note: If you are making substantial revisions to an existing course, please see the instructions below for new courses.
- Complete Discovery Course Proposal Form.
- Attach syllabus and catalogue description.
- Attach any other documents you feel might be helpful in evaluating your course.
- If you would like your course to be designated WI, please complete and attach the WI Form.
- If you would like your course designated as Inquiry, complete the Inquiry Form.
- If you would like your course designated as meeting a lab requirement, complete the Lab Form.
- College or School forwards to the Discovery Committee.
To propose an Inquiry designation for an existing *NON* Discovery course:
- If you would like your course to be designated as Inquiry, complete the Inquiry Form.
- Attach syllabus and any other documents you feel might be helpful.
- Obtain department approval. Department chair will forward to the Dean's Office.
- College or School forwards to the Discovery Committee.
To propose a new course:
- Follow your department/college's procedures for course development and proposal.
- Complete Discovery Course Proposal Form.
- Attach syllabus and catalogue description.
- Attach any other documents you feel might be helpful in evaluating your course.
- If you would like your course to be designated WI in Discovery, please complete and attach the WI Form.
- If you would like your course designated as Inquiry, complete the Inquiry Form.
- If you would like your course designated as meeting a lab requirement, complete the Lab Form.
