LEARNING DISABILITIES
The information that follows is provided to assure that information submitted is appropriate to determine eligibility. Once registration materials are received by the office, the Documentation Review Committee will begin their review process. Be advised the review process can take 2-3 weeks. Please also be aware that there are certain busier times of the semester and that the University may be closed for holidays or inclement weather. Appropriate documentation reflects a student's historical and current level of functioning, describes what substantial impact/limitations the student experiences due to the disability, and includes a diagnostic statement.
Registration materials consist of:
- Completed Accommodations & Services Request form.
- The most recent:
- Copy of Psycho-Educational Evaluation; or
- Copy of Neuropsychological Evaluation
3. It is also recommend to submit the most recent of the following documents from high school, if they exist:
- Copy of IEP(s)
- Copy of 504 Plan(s)
- Copy of Summary of Performance (SOP)
Transfer Students: If you were registered eligible for accommodations and services at another College or University, please have the Disability Services office send a letter of verification of accommodations & services to UNH DSS. Please have them include the following on their letterhead:
- Date(s)/length of time you were eligible for services.
- Accommodations & services that were approved.
Once a determination is made by the Documentation Review Committee, the student will be contacted via their UNH email. For incoming freshman a hard copy letter will also be sent to their home address.
If the student is determined to be an eligible student with a disability, the student will receive information specifying how to create an appointment to complete the registration process, learn of the accommodations they are eligible for and learn about UNH policy and procedure specific to those accommodations.
If the materials provided lack sufficient information or if there is conflicting data/test scores the student will be informed what additional information, if any, is needed. In addition, the student may be referred to academic supports and resources available to all students at UNH.
If information fails to establish the existence of a disability the student will receive information detailing specifically why this determination was made and information on the option of providing further documentation which establishes a diagnosis. In addition, the student may be referred to academic supports and resources available to all students at UNH.
