Syllabus Disability Statement

A statement placed on course syllabi indicating a faculty member's willingness to provide reasonable accommodations to a student with a disability normalizes the accommodation process. Please use the following statement on your course syllabi:

The University is committed to providing students with documented disabilities equal access to all university programs and facilities.  If you think you have a disability requiring accommodations, you must register with Disability Services for Students (DSS). Contact DSS at (603) 862-2607 or visit them in MUB 118. If you have received Accommodation Letters for this course from DSS, please provide me with that information privately so that we can review those accommodations.

Rationale:
The statement should be an invitation to students who have disabilities to meet with the faculty member, in a privatel environment, to review course requirements and to discuss their need for accommodations. Establishing reasonable accommodations is the responsibility of UNH DSS and are considered on a case-by-case basis based on the functional impact of each individual and the specific essential requirements of a course will vary.
