Transforming Images Display

Following is a description of 'Transforming Images', a series of pictures and biographies of past and present students, faculty, and staff associated with UNH

Think of the images you've acquired of people who have disabilities. Do these images emphasize the disability or are they pictures of people who have diverse interests, abilities and experiences. . . just like you?

As you stroll through this exhibition you will meet fifteen people who happen to have a disability. We hope their stories will challenge stereotypes and broaden your understanding of the richness of the lives of people with disabilities. Their abilities and experiences are diverse and their stories portray images of wholeness and humanness that transcend disability.

The people you meet are featured here, because they are friends, colleagues, or loved ones of people in the UNH community. They were identified by friends or acquaintances who had heard about the project. As you read some of the memorable moments in their lives, you may notice that these stories are similar to dreams, adventures, accomplishments and/or humor that you have experienced. It is our belief that as we transcend our differences, common images of wholeness begin to emerge.

Finally, you may find that the photographs of these individuals may not readily reveal their disability. This is intentional. Remember, we want you to meet the person first.
