Wordmark
The UNH wordmark has been designed with specific dimensions and spacing to be easily read, readily identifiable, and distinctive. It works well as a companion to Palatino, the typeface already in use by the University.

Logo
Use of the logo is recommended for all University materials. It is best used in combination with the wordmark (see below). For some applications, it may be appropriate or necessary to set the name of the University in an alternative typeface. This is permissible as long as care is taken to select alternative typefaces that do not compete with the logo, e.g., sans serif fonts for modern or high-tech applications. Ornate display faces should be avoided. The logo is available here for download (EPS and GIF formats).

Combination Logos and Wordmarks
For optimal, immediate recognition, a combination of the wordmark and logo is recommended for all materials (print and electronic) destined to be viewed by an external audience. To avoid confusion, there should be no other competing marks or logos. In the combination use, the logo is placed to the left of the wordmark.

Stationery
University policy requires that all University offices and departments use the standard stationery formats available through Printing Services. If there is a format question about your job, Printing Services will refer you to the Office of Editorial and Creative Services.
Guidelines for Using the Wordmark and Logo
- Because the size and space relationships of the letters in the
wordmark are part of a protected trademark, alteration of the
wordmark in any way is unacceptable (outlining, shadows, bold,
stretching or condensing, different spacing, etc.). The same is
true of the logoit must not be altered in any way.
- Leave adequate space on all sides of the wordmark: measure the
height of the "U" in the wordmark as it appears in your
project and leave an equal or greater amount of space on each
side of it.
- Avoid printing other graphic elements behind or over the wordmark.
- See the section on licensing and merchandising if you are planning to use the wordmark on a commercial product.
Typography
Primary Typeface
The Universitys primary typeface is Palatino. Palatino is practical and cost effective for publications, since it is carried by UNH Printing Services and most external typesetters.
For "desktop publishers," Palatino is a standard font on many laser printers. If you dont have the ability to output in Palatino, or the Universitys secondary typeface, Univers, you may be able to get your documents converted at Instructional Services, Printing Services, or the Copy Center.
Palatino, used for all campus signs, also is compatible with the Universitys diverse architecture (see "signage" section for more information about producing campus signs).
For the creation of slides, videos, or other multimedia presentations, Computing and Information Services and Instructional Services have the Palatino typeface available for use.
Secondary Typeface
Short text, such as headlines, captions, and business forms, can sometimes look best in a sans serif typeface. The Univers typeface has been chosen for those uses. Univers offers excellent emphasis and variety in combination with Palatino.
University Colors
The University colors, blue (Pantone Matching System 288) and white, must be used on stationery and business cards. Signs, vehicles, slides, and videos incorporating the wordmark and logo should, within reason, try to match these colors as well. The wordmark and logo, however, may appear in other colors in publications.
Licensing and Merchandising
If the University name, wordmark, logo, mascot, other graphic design, or photograph is to be used in any commercial way, contact the vice president for finance and administration for approval. Maintaining the trademark protection assures appropriate use and ensures that revenues return to the University. Similar guidelines exist for use of the Universitys athletic marks. Please refer to the Communication Resources should you have questions regarding commercial use of the Universitys marks.
Advertising
For all employment advertising, contact Human Resources, 862-0500. For help with other advertising, contact the Office of Editorial and Creative Services.
The University Seal
The Universitys seal marks the transformation of the New Hampshire College of Agriculture and the Mechanic Arts into the University of New Hampshire. The seal depicts a respect for ancient academic traditions along with the tremendous ambition and enthusiasm of that year1923. There are two other dates on the seal: the date the University was founded, as the New Hampshire College of Agriculture and the Mechanic Arts, in Hanover1866; and the date the college moved to its Durham campus1893.
The trademarked version of the seal is most appropriately used on diplomas and other designated official University documents. As with the wordmark and logo, the University seal may not be altered in any way.
If the University wordmark, logo, or seal are to be used in any commercial way, approval must be received from the vice president for finance and administration.
