Graphic Identity
UNH Family of Fonts
Straightforward and reliable. Traditional but not stuffy. These words describe UNH and they describe the font families of Adobe Garamond, Minion, Myriad, Gill Sans, and Trajan. Use of these fonts supports a unified look and feel across the University’s print communications.
Serif fonts
Adobe Garamond and Minion are the standard fonts used by the University for promotional materials ranging from booklets to business cards, posters to PowerPoint presentations. Minion is similar in appearance to Garamond; however, Minion is more compact and may be useful where space is at a premium.
Sans serif fonts
Myriad and Gill Sans are used by the University as secondary fonts in applications such as major brochures, catalogs, and newsletters where a diversity of type style is required. Myriad offers a more condensed alternative to Gill Sans—though the two fonts are similar in appearance and effect.
Display
Trajan is the display font used in the University’s wordmark.
Obtaining UNH Fonts
How to purchase the University typefaces
Due to the nature of font licensing and its expense, the University cannot make the recommended fonts available to the campus without cost. Campus users must purchase the fonts. This also applies to commercial printers and other independent vendors who may need the fonts for their computers to produce University-related materials.
The preferred Adobe version of Garamond, Minion, Myriad, Gill Sans, and Trajan
are available for purchase at a nominal cost by contacting Editorial and
Creative Services. Font license extensions–available to departments that
want to place the fonts on additional computers–may also be purchased in
this manner.
All University computers that use the preferred fonts must be licensed to
do so. Only the Adobe versions meet graphic identity guidelines.
Independent graphic designers and commercial printers who need the fonts
to do work for the University must purchase the fonts directly from any vendor
that deals in Adobe type. Campus clients are not charged licensing fees for
strategic communications projects developed through Editorial and Creative
Services or those printed on campus by Printing Services.
