Publication Date:

CPE is pleased to shine a spotlight on a different book from our Resource Library in each edition of the CPE Excellence in Training Quarterly Newsletter.  This month, we're highlighting The Social Skills Picture Book: Teaching play, emotion, and communication to children with autism by Jed Baker, Ph.D.

This book provides an overview of autism and includes some good information about specific strategies to engage with children with an autism spectrum disorder.  It's focus is on teaching social skills including 1) communication related skills, 2) play related skills, and 3) emotion related skills.

Whether you're a CPSW or a JPPO, you may be in a position to improve the life of a child or youth with a pervasive developmental disability and the information and techniques in this book may aid you in that task.

To check out a book from the CPE Resource Library, send an email to our Program Support Assistant, Diane Behrens, at diane.behrens@unh.edu, and provide her with the title and author of the book you'd like to reserve.
