Short-Term Summer 2011 Chinese Program in Chengdu, China, Announced

Information Meetings: Friday, April 1, 2:00 PM, Murkland G14; Tuesday, April 5, 2:00 PM, Murkland G14; and Thursday, April 7, 2:00 PM, Murkland G14

CI-UNH is making a preliminary announcement for its summer scholarship program in Chengdu, China. This program is open to all students; however, space is limited. Students interested are encouraged to attend an informal information session this Friday (April 1st) in Murkland G14, at 2:00 PM (also, next Tuesday, April 5, Murkland G14, 2:00 PM).

Dates:  May 24 – June 12, 2011
Place: Chengdu University, Chengdu, China

Itinerary:  Students will travel to Beijing on May 24th, then to Xian on the 28th, and finally to Chengdu on the 30th. Students come back to US from Shanghai on June 12 and arrive in Boston on June 12 (could be after midnight).

Study: Besides the tour in Beijing and Xian, students will attend 9 days of morning classes at Chengdu University studying basic Chinese conversation and spend afternoons practicing in real environment under faculty guidance. There will be some short trips around the city of Chengdu. There will be a class for those with some previous Chinese language background and class for beginners.

Credits: 4 UNH credits at summer rate (CHIN 400)

Cost: Students pay round trip international airfare and round trip bus to airport. Students also pay for 4 UNH credits. The scholarship takes care of everything after students land in Beijing including meals, lodging and travel. As of now, round trip airfare to China is about $1500 for May.

About Chengdu University: Chengdu University is located in Chengdu, China. Chengdu is the economic hub for China’s southwest.  It is also the hometown for the giant Pandas. Last year, Forbes ranked the city of Chengdu as No. 1 city with the greatest potential.
