Grand Jury Award winner

Mrs. Chia-Luen Lee

An elderly gentleman feeds birds at a small park in Taiwan. His familiar patrons gently gather around him as they savor the crushed grains of rice he offers, a welcome treat; the equivalent of bread crumbs to their winged cousins in America.

Grand Jury Comments

Although this and the following photo were taken in Taiwan, they could be from anywhere in China (Taiwan or the mainland). They offer a casual glimpse into the everyday life in China. This photo shows the golden years of a senior in a park feeding sparrows with rice; the second shows an ordinary family’s daily routine. In a fast-paced society with a bustling economy, you need speed, efficiency, and ingenuity.
