Cinema Studies

A relatively new discipline in the university curriculum, Cinema Studies explores the aesthetic, historical, and cultural practices of moving image media. The minor is open to all students interested in taking courses that examine the role of cinema, particularly that of film, as a unique and popular art form. This new and exciting field of study is flexible and interdisciplinary, receptive to students from a variety of backgrounds including the humanities, business, engineering, and the sciences. Over 20 instructors from various departments and colleges participate in the teaching of this dynamic and rapidly evolving field. Courses range from Introduction to Film Studies, to the history and theory of film, the analysis of various national, ethnic and avant-garde cinemas as well as comparative approaches to film narrative and genre study.
