In spite of giving his parents a really hard time, Malcolm has been caring for and about families for over 30 years. He is a former staff member of the renowned Menninger Foundation where he worked closely with his mentor, pioneering psychiatrist Karl Menninger, M.D., in developing education programs for adults serving abused, neglected, behaviorally challenged and adjudicated children. Malcolm also developed the Peaceful Intervention Program and Realistic Parenting, two training programs that have received national distribution. He has also responded to over 200 cases of youth violence in schools and communities throughout the U.S. and Canada. He is a senior consultant to many organizations including the U.S. Army Family Advocacy program and the Center for School Safety.
Recent research led by Dr. Smith has included the NH Child Support Guidelines Economic Reivew study and the NH Work and Family Life Survey. Dr. Smith's landmark research on the use of physical restraint of children in juvenile facilities is in publication with the Journal of Child Welfare. In addition, Dr. Smith serves as an associate editor or the Journal of Family Issues.

Dr. Mark V. Joyce

Education and Professional Experience:
Dr. Joyce earned his BA from Niagara University, a teaching certification and Masters in Education, specializing in Educational Administration from the University of New Hampshire. In 1986 he earned his Doctorate in Education from Boston College graduating with highest distinction, specializing in leadership, curriculum and instruction.
Mark has been a teacher of students in grades 7-12 and teaches at the graduate school level. In addition, he has served as a secondary and elementary school principal, an assistant superintendent of schools in New Hampshire. Mark has also served as a Superintendent of Schools in New Hampshire and Maine.
Dr. Joyce is currently the Executive Director of the New Hampshire School Administration Association, a private non profit organization that represents all school system administrators in the State of NH, and advocates on behalf of all children and public education. In addition, Mark is a frequent speaker and consultant to businesses and organizations on the topics of: education, leadership and communication. Mark resides in Epping, NH.

Attorney Marla Matthews

Marla Matthews advises the regulated industries and our business clients on a variety of insurance, healthcare and energy issues. Marla frequently represents clients before the New Hampshire Insurance Department on a range of matters, including licensing, market conduct examinations, strategic alliances, and holding company filings and approvals. She also appears before the Public Utilities Commission and the Department of Labor. In addition to her agency practice, Marla represents clients before the New Hampshire Legislature.
Marla also practices in the area of trusts and estates. She represents clients in matters of preservation and transfer of wealth, gift and estate tax planning, special needs trust planning, estate and trust administration, and planning for public benefits such as Medicaid. Marla is a member of the Elder Law, Estate Planning and Probate Law Section of the New Hampshire Bar Association.
A former educator, she has also represented school districts on education-related matters.
Prior to joining the firm, Marla served as a law clerk to the Honorable James E. Duggan, associate justice of the New Hampshire Supreme Court.
She currently serves on the board of directors of New Hampshire Jobs for America's Graduates.
Marla is a graduate of Northeastern University School of Law. She received her bachelor of science degree, magna cum laude, from Keene State College.
