Billing

Semester Programs

Billing for UNH-managed semester study abroad programs works the same way as it does when a student is taking classes on campus: undergraduate tuition bills are generated twice a year, in mid-July for the fall semester, and in mid-November for the spring semester. Monthly billing statements are also created if balances exist. Bills are no longer sent through the mail — they are posted to students' individual MyUNH accounts, and emails are sent notifying students when new bills have been posted.

When you are accepted to a program, the program notifies Business Services who adjusts your account to reflect the program costs. You will be billed for your normal UNH tuition rates (as you will ultimately receive credits at UNH for the courses you take through the program), the study abroad program-specific fee (which typically covers room, board and some excursions), and the UNH technology fee. You will not be billed for the mandatory student services fees that would appear on your bill if you were spending the semester taking courses at UNH.

The full tuition bill, including the study abroad program fee, is due by the normal billing deadline set by Business Services. Billing dates can be found here.

Housing

Students admitted to a semester-long study abroad program who currently live in UNH housing should read the study abroad information section of the UNH Housing website: http://unh.edu/housing/process/studyabroad.html.

Students studying abroad on a spring-semester program will need to complete a “Petition for Release from Housing” online form and submit it prior to the deadline set by the UNH Housing Office. Students can access the form on Blackboard (go to Blackboard > Webcat/Services tab > Housing Online Module > Current Residents > Assignments link in the blue menu bar). The program will provide the Housing Office with a list of students who have been admitted; this serves as written verification of the student’s participation.

Students planning to return to UNH housing the semester after they are abroad will need to complete an “Intent to Return to Housing after Exchange Program” form, which is also located on Blackboard>Webcat/Services>Housing Online Module>Current Residents>Assignments. Submitting this form does not obligate a student to return to housing, but it ensures students will receive important e-mails from the Housing Office about necessary forms, deposits and deadlines while abroad.

Registration

The COLA Center for Study Abroad will register admitted students automatically for their study abroad courses. Admitted/confirmed program participants will not need to obtain a RAC number or register via Webcat for the semester/term they intend to be abroad. However, once in-country, semester program participants will need to communicate with their academic advisors to obtain their RAC number and register for courses for the semester following the semester spent abroad.
