System Change - October 2002

Thursday, 10/17/02 - Alberti Moving to Leavitt
The CIS Unix system Alberti will be transferred to the Leavitt Data Center during the initial first-wave move of systems. No interruption of service is planned, and the move should be (relatively) invisible to most users.

Details: Alberti will be shut down around noon on Sunday October 20. Turing will "take over" Alberti's IP address soon afterward so that people requesting connections to Alberti will be connected to Turing instead. [IF you use an SSH client to connect, this almost certainly will cause your client to complain about an incorrect host key. Ignore the message, or connect to Hypatia or Turing instead.]

On Monday October 21 Alberti will be moved to Leavitt, installed and put back on the network. We estimate this will happen sometime before noon.

We hope that there will be no difference in service to our users with Alberti in its new location. However, the reason we're moving Alberti now is to test whether that's actually true, and to debug any problems that might occur. So we appreciate (in advance) any patience on your part that might or might not be necessary.
