The CIS Computer Service Center has verified that our VirusScan and Anti-Spyware Module 8 (virus definition 4558) will clean computers infected with the virus/worm which arrived on campus today (8/15/05). Please check your version (link at lower right of the taskbar) and, if necessary, update Virusscan. In addition, please run Windows Updates and install all critical updates as well as the patch available at http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/ms05-039.mspx

Zobot Virus Outbreak - 08/15/05; 4:00pm
A virus/worm outbreak on campus is spreading quickly, affecting numerous personal computers and poses threats to most Windows computers, including servers.

It has been identified as the Zotob worm, and many infected desktops are being disconnected from the network. We are currently investigating the best method to get these machines cleaned and back on the network. Once a determination is made, we will post updates to http://www.virus.unh.edu.

Please ensure that the latest Windows security patch for the Windows Plug and Play vulnerability (http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/Bulletin/MS05-039.mspx) and the most current anti-virus definitions are installed (http://www.virus.unh.edu). Clients who have Windows configured for automatic download and install of updates should be protected. If you do not have the Spyware Module, click here to download and install the module, as it is necessary to remove this most recent infection.
