System Change - August 2003

Data Center Generator
CIS is about to put into service a powerful generator intended to help sustain the Data Center and all its services through disruptions in electrical power. This is especially important as we enter the season of stormy weather and the new academic year.

Wednesday, August 27th, between 5:00 PM and 6:00 PM there will be a test of our ability to switch between normal power and the new emergency generator at the Data Center. This is the final step in a series of tests to place this important service in production. There is a very low possibility of interrupted service; the only remaining untested element will be the power transfer switch. These are simple, highly reliable devices.

System users should not experience any impact during the test unless there is a total failure of the switch. The time for this test was selected as the best compromise after extended consultations with system users and the various implementation contractors.

If you have questions, please contact both Bill Baber and Jim Cerny, thank you
