Service Outage Log File - August 2003

********************************************************************
    PLANNED WORK August 22, 2003 12:01am-3:00am
********************************************************************
We will be reconfiguring UNH core routing hardware between 12:01 and 3:00am on Friday August 22, 2003. Network Service will be disrupted during this time. Affected areas will include UNH Durham, UNH Manchester, the College for Lifelong Learning, Cooperative Extension Services, Lee System office, and Jackson Labs. We apologize for any inconvenience and thank you for all your cooperation.

Staff/Student Voicemail Reboot 8/20/03
The staff/student voicemail system will be rebooted on August 20 at 5:00am. Expected voicemail system downtime will be less than fifteen minutes.

Announcement of planned work - 8/18/03
Monday morning, August 18th, about 7:30 AM Public Service will be completing additional repairs to the electrical system at One Leavitt Lane. This work is necessary to complete repairs in order to avoid another power outage like the Data Center experienced at One Leavitt Lane earlier this week due to a faulty fuse. They expect the work to be a routine operation, for it to take very little time and for there to be no service disruption.

If there is an unexpected interruption of service, the uninterruptible power supply (UPS) system will support the data center equipment, again, with the expectation of no service disruption.

UNH staff from Facilities and CIS will be on-site, monitoring the operation. If there is an unexpected interruption of service that lasts longer than the UPS systems can handle, UNH staff will initiate communication to update clients about the situation, and if necessary, shut down systems to protect them.

The choice of the day and time to do this work is based on a combination of availability of Public Service, and not delaying the repairs any longer than necessary. If Public Service does not complete the repairs, the data center will continue to be at risk for additional unexpected outages that will be longer in duration, and have a higher potential for causing serious damage.

If Public Service cannot do this work Monday morning due to rain, the work will be scheduled for the next available time.

Thank you for your understanding and support.

Leavitt Lane Fuse Replacement
As a result of the power loss to the Data Center on Friday, August 8, the electricians identified two more fuses that need replacing. It is critical that these fuses are replaced in the near future, to avoid further unplanned outages. If we are able to schedule down-time outside of customary business hours to have the fuses replaced, we will do so. However, if we encounter unexpected problems, we may have to power down the Data Center with little notice. Every effort will be made to minimize the disruption to services, and to send out informative communications. This web page will have the most current information at all times. If you have any questions/concerns, please contact the CIS Help Desk & Dispatch Center at 862-4242.

New Pinnacle Server Cutover 8/15/03
We are planning on cutting over to the new server beginning Friday, August 15, 2003, at 13:00. This means that all functions running on toad.unh.edu will be unavailable from that time until the cutover is complete. If all users log out of Pinnacle before then, it will save time during the cutover.

  • There will be no access to Pinnacle via client nor web
  • There will be no Web Billing data
  • There will be no MySoft, and MySoft will not be reinstalled

We expect that all Pinnacle functions will be available by 08:00 on Monday, August 18, 2003
