Service Interruptions - March 2003

3-31-2003 Northeast is experiencing intermittent Long Distance Phone problem.
There currently is an issue affecting most Long Distance carriers in the Northeast. This issue is causing some intermittent problems when dialing long distance telephone calls. At this time there have been no problems reported at UNH, but a problem may be experienced calling an affected area. Updates will be posted as they become available.

Power and Network connectivity has been restored in Kingsbury Hall.

Kingsbury hall is currently experiencing power and network outages. Technicians are aware of the problem and are working on it right now. All systems will be restored asap.

Update: UNHN and UNHD VMS systems back online - 3/20/03 7:30am
The problem with the air conditioning units in the Data Center at 1 Leavitt Lane has been repaired. The VMS systems UNHN and UNHD have been brought back online. All systems are back to normal.

UNHN and UNHD VMS systems unavailable - 3/19/03 5:00pm
There is a problem with some of the air conditioning units in the Data Center at 1 Leavitt Lane. Due to this problem the VMS systems UNHN and UNHD have been taken off-line until tomorrow morning. The air conditioners are being worked on and the situation is being monitored. Announcements will be made if the situation changes.

Intermittent Problems with Off Campus calls - 3/13/03 - UPDATE 5:15pm
Faulty hardware was replaced and, as of 5:15pm, the campus phone system problems have been resolved.

We are currently experiencing intermittent and random problems with calling out from campus. Telecom is aware of the problem, which is related to a trunk line, and is working with Verizon to resolve this. No estimated time on a fix.

Banner Finance/HR Access Problems - 3/6/03 - UPDATE 2:13pm
BPRD is now available. The forms have been moved to a different location and access has been tested. No issues were found. Please access BPRD as necessary and report any issues to your campus help desk or to Banner.Finance.Production@unh.edu.

Banner Finance/HR Access Problems - 3/6/03 - UPDATE 2:04pm
Banner finance production and HR UTST databases are available.

Banner Finance/HR Access Problems - 3/6/03 - UPDATE 11:56am
The Project Fresh database middleware servers are experiencing problems. All users of these databases will be unable to access Banner through the front end application temporarily. The order in which the databases environments will be made available is as follows:

  • BPRD (Fresh Banner Production)
  • UTST (Fresh Banner HR and Integrated Testing area)
  • BTST (Fresh Banner Finance working area)
  • TRNG (Fresh Banner testing area)
  • DEVL (Fresh Banner Development)
  • BTRN (Fresh Banner Training)

This situation involves front end Banner access only. Access through other tools such as TOAD or server access will remain unaffected. As each Banner application area (i.e. production, training, etc.) becomes available a notice will be sent out.

Banner Finance/HR Access Problems - 3/6/03 - UPDATE 10:27am
IMPORTANT - It will be necessary for all Web enabled Banner users to log off all HR/Finance instances in the near future! A second message will alert you to the exact time.

Current status update on Banner forms serving for HR/Finance:

  • We have experienced a second mass storage failure - spare disk failed
  • We are moving BPRD support to an alternate server
  • ETA for availability will be relayed as soon as it can be predicted (hours)
  • Dell has parts being delivered to restore normal service

Banner Finance/HR Access Problems - 3/6/03 - UPDATE 10:06am
After further investigation into the Banner web forms problem, the decision has been made to bring down BPRD until a resolution is found. There is concern that some functions could be affecting the data saved to the database. IT staff are continuing to work on the problem and there will be more information avialable as the day goes on. BPRD is the ONLY instance that will be impacted - all testing and training instances will continue to be available.

Banner Finance/HR Access Problems - 3/6/03
Banner Finance and HR users are experiencing intermittent difficulties accessing Banner web forms at this time. Hardware problems with middleware server disks have been identified, and it is projected that the issues will be resolved later this morning.

If you have any concerns please contact the Call and Dispatch Center at 862-4242. We regret the inconvenience and will keep you updated as the situation changes .

Power and Network Outage - 3/5/2003 UPDATE - 3:06pm
Network connectivity has been restored to all buildings affected by power outage except administration connections in the New England Center. These network connections will be brought back online asap.

Power is being restored at this time. Network connectivity will be restored shortly.

Power and Network Outage - 3/5/2003; 11:26am
Due to a fire emergency, power has been shut off to Stoke Hall and surrounding buildings. Network connectivity has been affected by this outage. Buildings without network connectivity at this time include Stoke, Sawyer, Scott, Jesse Doe, Lord, McLaughlin, Smith, New England Center and Elliot Alumni Center. Estimated downtime is unknown at this time.
