Service Outage Log File - January 2003

January 27, 2003 - Intermittent Problems connecting to Off-Campus Web Sites
From 12:15 to 1pm there was a problem connecting to off-campus web sites. There was a server on campus that was infected with the W32/SQLSlammer.worm causing excessive network traffic. Telecom was able to isolate and take the server off of network. This fixed the problem.

January 23, 2003 - Attention Parsons and Kendall Network Clients
Telecom will be upgrading UNH Network equipment in these buildings. As a result, the network will be unavailable from 5:00AM to 7:00AM.

Exchange Server Downtime - 1/19/2003
Sunday morning, 1/19/03 , the Microsoft Exchange servers will be unavailable from 8:00 a.m. to noon while scheduled preventive maintenance is performed. We thank you for your understanding and apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you. If you need further assistance or clarification on this, please contact the CIS Help Desk. Thanks in advance for your cooperation.

VPN connection problem has been resolved.

At this time On-USNH Campus users may experience a problem connecting to the SafeNet VPN. Telecom is aware of the problem and is working on correcting it.

BPRD is available.

BPRD Unavailable - 01/09/2003, 2:52pm
The UNIX server supporting the BPRD BANNER instance has gone down due system problems. The system administrators are currently investigating the problem. A timetable for when the system will come back up has not been set. Additional information will be sent out as soon as it is available.

CISUNIX Downtimes - 12/31/02 - 1/3/03
Various CIS Unix systems will be unavailable for use according to the following schedule:

Hypatia  Tue Dec 31 7:30am - 8:00am (disk problem investigation)
Sullivan  Tue Dec 31 8:00am - 11:00am (OS & Web Server Upgrade)
Turing  Thu Jan 2 7:30am - 11:00am (OS Upgrade)
Bamboo  Fri Jan 3 7:30am - 11:00am (OS & Web Server Upgrade)

Other systems should remain available while the above aren't.

Notes:
"Pubpages" web service will be unavailable during Sullivan's upgrade.
"Webmail" service will be unavailable during Bamboo's upgrade.
"Netatalk" file services for Macintoshes will be unavailable during Turing's upgrade.

PLANNED WORK January 3, 2003 7:00am
We will be reconfiguring UNH Internet routing hardware between 7:00am and 7:15am on Friday Jan 3, 2003. Internet service will be disrupted briefly during this time. Areas include UNH faculty and staff (not students), the College for Lifelong Learning, Cooperative Extension Services, Lee System office, Jackson Labs, and UNH Manchester. We apologize for any inconvenience and thank you for all your cooperation.

The CISUNIX system, Hypatia, will be unavailable this afternoon from 4:30 pm to 5:30 pm due to unexpected maintenance requirements. If you have any questions or concerns please contact the Call and Dispatch Center at 862-4242.
