This page describes the kinds of software work the TSL can perform on your system. All services are limited to the supported products list. The TSL gives priority service to customers who have problems with products on the list. TSL cannot guarentee success with products that are not on the support list.
Software
BIOS
FLASH/Update BIOS - When necessay, TSL staff can perform updates to the BIOS provided an update can be located on the Web.
Configurations - The TSL can adjust the settings of a supported BIOS so that the settings work with the internal components of your computer.
Operating Systems
Operating System Installations - The TSL can look for problems with your operating system and suggest corrective measures. In all cases, the client must provide the necessary media and proof of ownership for any operating system installed by the TSL.
Reinstall Operating Systems - The TSL can reinstall the current version of your operating system. Example: Installing the same version of Windows 95 on your computer.
Operating System Updates - The TSL can update your operating system. Example: Installing Macintosh operating System 7.5.5 to a Mac that has a lower version of System 7.5
Operating System Upgrades - The TSL can install a more current Operating System if you are entitled. Example: Installing Macintosh Operating System 8.5 on a machine that has 8.1.
Operating System Downgrades - The TSL can install a less current Operating System if you have a license. Example: Installing Windows 95 on a computer that has Windows 98.
Peripherals
Peripheral Installation and Configuration - The TSL can look for problems with the software configuration of peripherals and suggest corrective measures. Corrective measures include installing the latest available drivers and reconfiguring I/O Ports and IRQs.
Netork Interface Cards - The TSL can install and configure Network Interface Cards (NICs) to work on the UNH Network.
Desktop Printer Software - The TSL can install and update desktop printer drivers.
Network Printer Software - The TSL can install and configure network printer software. See the PSS section of our web page for more information.
Modem Software - The TSL can install and configure Dial-up software for remote access. All modems configured in the TSL are tested to verify that dialup connections are being made before they leave.
External Storage Software - The TSL can install and configure external storage devices and verify that they are working properly on your machine.
Applications
Problem Diagnosis and Recommendations - The TSL can look for problems with applications and suggest corrective measures. The TSL can provide various levels of support for the following groups of software.
Commercial Software - Clients must supply copies of the original media and proof of licensing for all commercial software installed by TSL. The TSL does not provide ongoing support for software that is not on the supported products list.
UNH Network Applications - This suite of applications includes Netscape, Eudora Lite and platform specific FTP and terminal emmulation software. CIS maintains the latest versions of these titles and fully supports them.
ResNet Applications - The TSL installs ResNet Applications for students who do not have CD-ROMs on their computers. The TSL can install ResNet Applications on computers with CD-ROMS for a fee. ResNet applications are fully supported by CIS and the TSL.
Install Applications - The TSL can install new software applications purchased through The Tech Underground. The TSL verifies that all software installed is functional at the time of installation.
Re-install Applications - The TSL can reinstall applications if the original becomes damaged or corrupt. Example: Reinstalling WinQVT because it does not print properly.
Update Applications - The TSL can install the latest updates of applications as they are released from the vendor. Example: Macintosh Operating System 8.5 Upgrade for Microsoft Office 98.
Upgrade Applications - The TSL can upgrade applications provided the client supplies a licensed copy and proof of ownership of the upgrade to the TSL. Example: Replacing Microsoft Office 95 with Microsoft Office 97.
Anti-Viral Services
Removes Viruses - The TSL uses Dr. Solomon Anti Virus software to remove viruses.
Install Anti-virus Software - The TSL can install the latest version of Dr. Solomon for clients who provide us with their e-mail address.
Update Anti-virus Software - Anti-virus software improves periodically through-out the year. The TSL can install the latest virus definitions of Dr. Solomon for clients who provide us with their e-mail address.
Routine Preventative Maintenance
Scandisk and Defrag - The TSL can run these routine maintenance programs for Windows 95 on your machine upon request.
Disk First-Aid, Norton Utilities, and Tech Tool Pro. - The TSL can run these routine maintenence programs for the Macintosh upon request.
Networking
Open Transport - The TSL can install the latest version of Open Transport Networking on your Macintosh so that your machine can do DHCP on the UNH Network.
Netware IPX - The TSL can install Novell Client software on machines that need to access Novel Servers.
TCP/IP - The TSL can load and configure TCP/IP Networking on Windows 95 computers so that they can run IP Applications on the UNH Network.
Data Conversions and File Recovery
File Conversions - The TSL can convert multiple files from one format to another for clients who are migrating from a Macintosh to Windows 95 platform and vice-versa.
Hard Drive Data Recovery - The TSL can attempt to recover lost or accidentally deleted files from the hard drives of Macintosh and Window 95 computers. Hard Drive data recovery is very problematic, the TSL cannot guarantee success with recovery attempts.
