Energy Management for Windows 9x


These instructions guide you in setting power management on a personal computer running Windows 95 or 98. If you do not find the options and commands described below in your W9x screens, please exit the setup screen without saving any changes, and contact us at the e-mail address shown below. This method of turning on power management affects the monitor, not the hard disk. This method was tested on Pentium desktop equipment running Microsoft Windows 95 version 4.009.950 B.

CAUTION: Regarding Screen Savers

Third party Screen Savers have been known to cause problems with power management. It is recommended that you remove or disable any third party screen saver software before activating power management on your computer. Please refer to the instructions that came with your screen saver software for how to disable or remove it.

To Activate Power Management:

  1. Click the Start button.
  2. Click the Settings menu.
  3. Click the Control Panel menu.
  4. Open the Display icon in the Control Menu.
  5. Select the Screen Saver tab.
  6. Check off the Low-power stanby option.
    For Windows 98: Under "Energy Saving Features of Monitor", click Settings.
  7. Select the number of minutes of inactivity before the monitor goes into low-power mode.
  8. Click OK and close all associated windows.
