Planning
While the process of enrolling in a study abroad program is exciting, it can also seem overwhelming. It doesn’t have to be. The best approach to the process is to break it down into manageable steps or stages. The CIE is here to assist students in managing their study abroad plans, application and enrollment into a successful program.
Below are the steps a student needs to take in order to plan his or her study abroad experience.
- Attend a mandatory Study Abroad Information Session.
- Held every Thursday at 1 pm. Check news & events page for details. - Apply for your passport. If you have a passport, check the expiration date to confirm that it will not expire until 6 months after your return.
- Submit a Study Away Student Eligibility Form. This must be completed the semester before you study abroad.
- Research UNH study abroad programs and meet with a Study Abroad Advisor.
- Plan ahead: save money, apply for scholarships and compare program fees; what is included, what is not? Use the budget worksheet on our website: http://www.unh.edu/cie/studyabroad/financing.html.
- Choose and apply to a study abroad program. Application deadlines for UNH study abroad programs vary. Please check with your program for the exact dates.
- Notify the CIE when you apply to a study abroad program.
- CIE Notification Deadline for summer/fall programs: April 1
- CIE Notification Deadline for spring programs: October 1 - Attend a mandatory Study Abroad Registration Session.
- Held every Tuesday at 1 pm. - Complete ALL registration paperwork within one week of attending a Registration Session and return the forms to the CIE in Hood House 223 by:
April 15 (summer/fall programs)
November 15 (spring programs) - Apply for a student visa, if required.
- Attend the mandatory Pre-Departure Orientation.
- Go, learn lots, and have an amazing time abroad!
