Dr. Vaughan is the Geoffrey Canada Professor of Africana Studies & History and Director of Africana Studies Program at Bowdoin College in Maine. His areas of expertise are Modern African Political and Social History (Regional Focus: West Africa, East Africa, Southern Africa); Comparative Politics; International Relations; African Diaspora Studies; and Globalization.

“Civil War and Development in Angola: ‘Local’ Actors/International Interests”
Rebecca Warne Peters
Syracuse University
Rebecca Warne Peters is Assistant Professor of Public Administration and International Affairs at the Maxwell School of Syracuse University, teaching graduate courses in public health and international relations. She has conducted research on public health and development interventions in Tanzania, Mozambique and, most recently, as a Fulbright Fellow in Angola. Peters will be talking about the impact of development workers' language, culture and connections on post-war reconstruction efforts, particularly in Angola.
