Research Interests

Chemical separations using liquid chromatography and capillary electrophoresis, vibrational spectroscopic investigations, expert systems.

Current Research Interests

Our research interests have been directed primarily in two areas: vibrational spectroscopy and analytical separations. In vibrational spectroscopy our efforts have included developing systems for computer-assisted spectral interpretation. We have also investigated approaches to improving detection of analytes in aqueous solutions with ATR/FTIR. Other studies have concentrated on using vibrational spectroscopy to study the interactions of bioactive molecules with model membrane systems. For example, the interaction of several bile salts under different solution conditions with multilamellar vesicles of dipalmitoylphosphatidylcholine (DPPC) have been investigated using FTIR spectroscopy.

Another research focus in our laboratory has been developing and improving methods for analytical separations. We are exploring approaches to improve the separations provided by capillary electrophoresis and developing novel approaches for detection in HPLC.
