La Traviata is Verdi's beloved story of the ill-fated romance between the courtesan Violetta and a commoner, Alfredo. Based on Alexandre Dumas' play La Dame aux camélias (Camille,) La Traviata argues that true love must triumph over all, and that the highest virtue in a human being is a good heart.
Sung in Italian with English super titles, this production features the Sofia Symphony Orchestra and Chorus, as well as outstanding professional vocal soloists from the major opera houses of Europe and the USA.
“What makes this company so worth seeing year after year is that its priorities are always right. Opera exists to melt our hearts - and Teatro Lirico does just that.” -- Boston Phoenix
