Heather A. Turner, Ph.D., Research Associate Professor
Heather A. Turner is Associate Professor of Sociology at the University of New Hampshire. She has a BA in Sociology from the University of Western Ontario and a Ph.D. in Human Development and Aging at the University of California, San Francisco. She is interested in the impact of social structure, stress and resources on mental health. Professor Turner's current research projects focus on gender differences in depression, the long-term and cumulative effects of childhood adversity on the mental health of adults, the role of social capital in the stress process, and the impact of juvenile victimization on child well-being. At the Crimes against Children Center, Dr. Turner is co-principal investigator (with David Finkelhor) on the Developmental Victimization Survey (DVS), a national study of 2,000 children age 2-17. The DVS is designed to estimate the incidence and distribution of a wide range of victimization experiences, and to assess the impact of various forms of victimization on mental health outcomes.
