The UNH Engineering Total Integration Education Solution (TIES) Study was initiated by the Collaborative Engineering Committee to develop a plan for the future of engineering education at UNH which reflects the collective knowledge of our community. It is motivated by a number of factors: the ABET Engineering Criteria 2000, the Boyer Commission Report on undergraduate education at research universities, student enrollment issues, an explosion in information technology, and an awareness that our present facilities are inadequate to meet our future needs.
The "TIES" Logo highlights six focus areas. The three primarily internal issues of Curriculum Reform, Modern Learning Facilities , and Continuous Assessment, are shown at the top. Three important areas with external aspects ( Partnerships , Outreach , and Student Recruitment & Retention ) are shown at the bottom. The TIES logo recognizes that our study must consider the interrelationships between the areas; that the areas are all "tied" together with each other and with our primary missions of teaching, research and service.
Our community members are also shown on the Logo: faculty and administrators who must set the standards and deliver an excellent education, the "customers" (our students, their parents, and the industries who eventually pay their salaries), and our valued alumni. It is our desire to engage all of these community members in a meaningful dialogue on the road to our collective vision.
This web site is designed to both disseminate and collect.
For each of the six areas, it will disseminate useful information,
provides links to "Excellence Examples", and collect
suggestions from the members of our community. To use this site
most effectively, start by reading the
Vision statement
.
Then jump to any one the six focus areas, and browse
some of the "Excellence Examples." Finally, and most
importantly, let us know what you think by using the "Suggestion"
box. Thanks for stopping by!
