Saint Charles Children’s Home:
St. Charles is a home for children between the ages of 3 and 11 who have been removed from previous homes due to abuse or neglect. This program seeks to have UNH students serve as role models and mentors. On week nights, UNH students help with home work. This could mean reading a book with a younger child, or helping one of the older children with spelling or math. In the afternoons, UNH students help with the after school running/walking program, serving as running/walking buddies for the children. It is an amazing and life affirming experience working with these children.
An interview, application and background check are needed to become a volunteer. Email Julie to start this process.
Cross Roads House, Inc. : Cross Roads is a non-profit in Portsmouth that is focused on providing “safe and supportive housing to those individuals and families who are experiencing homelessness, and to assist them in moving with dignity and purpose to permanent housing.” The Catholic Student Organization prepares and serves a meal once a month for the people who come to Crossroads for a warm meal. The students prepare the meal during the week and a small group of 5-6 students serve the meal the third Wednesday of each month. It is a commitment of care, hospitality, and hard work.
An application must be completed to become a volunteer. Please, email Julie to start this process.
