Catholic Student Organization

As a worshipping community we are ALL called to actively participate in our liturgies through song, prayer, silence, and ritual action.  Becoming a Lay Minister is a great way to share your gifts and talents with the community. At St. Thomas More you are invited to participate in the Eucharistic liturgy in a variety of ways as outlined below. There are student leaders for each area of Lay ministry available to talk with you about your interest in becoming involved. WE encourage you to seek them out. Their names and email addresses are provided for your convenience.

Contact these students or Julie, our campus minister with questions about lay ministry.

Lectors are called forth from the community to proclaim the Word of God.  When we gather together to celebrate Mass, we encounter God in the sacraments, in the presider, in one another, and in the proclamation of the Word of God.  As a lector at STM, your ministry calls you to help the community recognize God present in the liturgy of the Word.  Students proclaim the Word of God at weekend Masses.  A good speaking voice, an ability to read in public, and a willingness to study scripture are welcomed.  Formation and training are offered in the fall and on an individual basis.

Eucharistic Ministers assist the presider in distribution of the Body and Blood of Christ to the faithful during Mass.  It is a grace-filled opportunity to minister to the STM community.  Eucharistic Ministers attend formation and training sessions and are scheduled each term for all weekend liturgies.  Formation and training is offered in the fall and on an individual basis.

Greeters or Ministers of Hospitality help to create a welcoming environment at Mass for all those who come to worship.  Greeters extend a welcome and sense of hospitality by greeting arriving worshippers, distributing Mass programs, and attending to other needs that may arise during liturgy.

Music Ministers help to lead the community in song with their voices and/or instruments.

Cross/candle/incense Bearers are needed at all weekend Masses.
