UNH Hosts Corporate Governance Event About B Corporations Feb. 4


UNH will host “To B or Not To B: Are Benefit Corporations the Corporate Governance Architecture of the 21st century?”

Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2013. The event, which includes workshops, a keynote address and a panel discussion, will focus on how benefit corporations, commonly known as B corporations, may provide a new model for corporate governance. 

President Mark Huddleston Attends White House Summit on Improving Access to Higher Education


President Mark W. Huddleston was one of 100 college and university presidents and 40 leaders from nonprofits, foundations, state governments, and the private sector attending a White House summit on expanding college opportunity Jan. 16, 2014. 

The daylong event with President Barack Obama, First Lady Michelle Obama, and senior administration officials highlighted more than 100 commitments made by the attending organizations to help low-income students enroll in college and ensure they succeed once they get there. 

UNH Integrates Nationally Recognized Anti-Bullying Program into Graduate Education Program


In the United States, it is estimated that a child is bullied every seven minutes. 

Now future teachers graduating from UNH’s graduate education program will enter their first classrooms better prepared to prevent bullying by focusing on creating civility and empathy. This spring, UNH is offering the new course “The Courage to Care: Teaching Empathy in the Classroom,” which is based on the university’s nationally recognized anti-bullying program for middle schools.

Passings: Emery Pierre Booska


Emery Pierre Booska, 80, former assistant dean of administration for the College of Life Sciences and Agriculture, died Jan.12, 2014

In 1967, he moved his family to Durham, and began his fulfilling career at the University of New Hampshire. While at UNH, Booska served and chaired numerous committees. He retired in 2001. His professional honors include, among others, the Distinguished Pink Triangle Award, UNH Presidential Award of Excellence, Professional Administrative and Technical Staff (PAT) Outstanding Service Award.

Carsey Public Policy Summer Scholars Program Application Deadline Feb. 10


A primary purpose of the proposed Carsey School of Public Policy is to support faculty scholarship that informs public policy or contributes to its design, implementation, and evaluation. To that end, the Carsey Institute, continuing its role as the primary locus of research within the new school, announces the first round of competition for the Summer Scholars Program.
