Low-income families have been hit hard by the rising cost of child care in America, and federal child care subsidies are one of the most important ways to mitigate rising child care costs that, for some households, now represent more than a third of their annual income, according to new research from the Carsey Institute at UNH. 

Original drawings, prints and paintings by selected well-known northern New England artists will be up for bid and for sale during the Museum of Art fundraiser “Rose Moon,” Saturday, June 8, from 5-7 p.m., at in the Paul Creative Arts Center.  

This multi-faceted event includes the sale of the limited edition “Rose Moon, print portfolio, a wine tasting, a tribute to an outstanding patron of the museum, and an auction of works by widely exhibited regional artists.   

Cooperative Extension and the College of Life Sciences and Agriculture invites the public to a Community Tree Farm Field Day on June 1 from 9 a.m. – 3:45 p.m. in the UNH woodlands. The field day will feature long and short tours, demonstrations, lectures, and lunch.  

“It’s a great opportunity to experience these working forests,” says forester Steve Eisenhaure, land use coordinator in the Office of Woodlands and Natural Areas.

U.S. lodging executives’ sentiment about general business conditions was flat in April compared to the prior month, according to the UNH Lodging Executives Sentiment Index (LESI) for the month ending April 2013. The index showed little growth to 69.3 from 68.8 in March 2013.  

Xiaowei Teng, assistant professor of chemical engineering, has received an Early Career Research Award from the U.S. Department of Energy to pursue research that will improve the ability to store energy in supercapacitors.

A new study from the UNH Crimes against Children Research Center shows that there has not been a recession-related increase in violence exposure among children and youth. The research tracking more than 50 forms of violence, crime, bullying, and child maltreatment from 2008 to 2011 found levels for most forms of violence either declining or near the same levels.

Included were staff members who have worked at UNH 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35 and 40 years.  

During the celebration, President Mark Huddleston presented the 2013 Presidential Award of Excellence to this year's five award recipients.
