Researcher Receives $750,000 from NSF for Work on Lamprey Hormones


Stacia SowerProfessor of biochemistry Stacia Sower has received a prestigious accomplishment-based renewal grant from the National Science Foundation. The grant, of $750,000 during five years, will support Sower’s ongoing investigation into the reproductive hormones in the sea lamprey, one of the oldest lineages of vertebrates in the world.

UNH will host a statewide New Hampshire Social Business and Microfinance Forum and the Social Business Innovation Challenge for New Hampshire college students, community members, and social entrepreneurs Monday, Sept. 30, 2013.

First Recipient of Thomas W. Haas Professorship is Named


Joanne BurkeJoanne Burke, clinical associate professor of nutrition, is the first Thomas W. Haas Professor in Sustainable Food Systems. The professorship was established earlier this year with a $1 million gift to the Sustainability Institute at UNH from the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation, generated from a donor-advised fund established by Durham philanthropist Tom Haas.
