Digital Collections at the Dimond Library Now Includes Yearbooks

Wednesday, November 28, 2012

The Granite, UNH’s yearbook, is now offered online in a limited capacity. In a project that will eventually include all of the books, UNH Library’s Digital Collections now has 16 yearbooks online (The Granite Yearbook Collection).

The yearbooks can be downloaded or viewed online using Digital Collections’ new book reader software, built through a collaboration between the library and the Alumni Association.

“Many colleges are putting yearbooks online and finding they are becoming more and more popular.  Alumni do want continued access to university resources so the more the library can offer them, the better.  The yearbooks offer a wonderful connection to the past, especially for those who return for Alumni weekends,” says Meredith Ricker, Digital Collections manager. “We want to offer patrons easier access and a choice on how they access information about UNH and New Hampshire.”

Ricker says the yearbooks that are available online thus far were chosen, in part, based on upcoming Homecomings. They include the years1952 through 1958, 1963 and 1964, 1972 and 1973, 1987 and 1988, and 2002, 2003, 2007 and 2001.

There are yearbooks dating back to 1909. Eventually, they will all be viewable online. The project is expected to take three years. Requests for particular years can be made to Ricker at meredith.ricker@unh.edu

This is the first time UNH has put its yearbooks online.
