PCAC Gets New Box Office
PCAC Gets New Box Office
The Paul Creative Arts Center has always offered great entertainment. Getting tickets to those great performances is easier than ever now that PCAC has its own box office.
Up until now, patrons purchased tickets to concerts or theatre and dance productions through the MUB box office, or in the lobby of the PCAC. But staff changes at the MUB meant the student center could no longer provide the service, so the theatre and dance department decided to do so, recruiting its staff and students to run it.
“The goal was to create a box office that was fully functional but at the same time could be operated by existing UNH staff without overburdening their already substantial workload,” says Michael Wood of the theater and dance department.
To reach that goal, Wood researched ticket purchasing companies used by about 30 schools in the Northeast. He then compared the five most popular vendors before settling on University Tickets as the best choice.
“They have a simple, low-cost fee structure, a very user-friendly interface for both our student employees as well as patrons who purchase tickets online, and they specialize specifically in ticket selling operations for colleges and universities,” Wood says.
With the new system, patrons can choose their seats and order tickets online (for no additional fee). And, when faculty and staff log in, the software recognizes their role at UNH and offers them the appropriate discounts.
“Having our own full-time box office will also add a valuable teaching component for our students as they will have hands-on training in working on the business side of a performing arts venue,” Wood adds.
The box office, located in the lobby of the Johnson Theatre, is open Monday – Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. during the fall and spring semesters when classes are in session. For more information visit http://www.unharts.com or call 2-7222.
