Nerine completed her PhD research at the University of Edinburgh on the characterization of expression, pharmacology and signaling cascades activated by chicken GnRH receptor subtypes under the Supervision of Prof. Robert Millar, Dr. Ian Dunn and Dr. Kevin Morgan. Her research interests lie in comparative endocrinology with particular reference to the neuroendocrine control of reproduction. She is also largely interested in the impact of signaling molecules and intracellular signal transduction cascades in pituitary gonadotrophs controlling gene regulation. During her time in Dr. Sower’s lab, she will be pushing the boundaries of her comparative knowledge into the realms of the basal chordates. The research she will be conducting in the CME will include the characterization of the ligand selectivity and expression of the novel lamprey GnRH receptors that have been cloned in this laboratory/Center. She will also be looking at the control of expression of the receptors by performing in-vitro and in-vivo experiments in response to various peptides. |
