MSG Spencer received a Bachelors of Arts Degree in Managerial studies from the University of Maryland, an Associates of Science Degree from the University of New York, and was a 1976 graduate of Brattleboro Union High School, in Brattleboro, Vermont.


He began his military career at Ft Dix, NJ in July 1976, and then attended his Advanced Individual training at the Infantry School, Ft Benning, Georgia. Throughout his career, he has attended many military schools to include: PNCOC/CA, BNCOC/CA, Drill Sergeant School, ANCOC, Net Controllers Course, Security Managers Course and First Sergeants Academy.


MSG Spencer has served in every position in a mortar platoon from Ammunition Bearer to Forward Observer, to Fire Direction Center Chief to Platoon Sergeant. He has worked as a German military liaison and fielded new equipment with the office of Force Integration Management. He served as the S2 NCOIC for an 18th Airborne Corp unit, and followed on as 1SG of a 350 man company.


He has served in various assignments, earning recognition as a German Linguist, while stationed in Germany. Served as a Drill Instructor at Ft Dix, NJ, and spent an exciting time in Berlin when the wall came down. With a follow on assignment with the 3rd Infantry Division, and is now enjoying the challenges of instructing future officers here at the University of New Hampshire.


MSG Spencer is married to the former Shirley Temple, of Limerick, Maine, with two children, Benjamin and Carolin, who have moved on to start their own careers.
