Major Scott Silfies is a native of Pennsylvania. He is a 1984 Army ROTC Distinguished Military Graduate from Gannon University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Counseling Psychology.

In his first assignment as a lieutenant he spent four years with the 82nd Airborne Division, serving as a Platoon Leader, Company Commander, and Battalion Logistics Officer (S4).

As a captain he served in the forward deployed battalion of the 1st Special Forces Group in Okinawa, Japan with duty as a Detachment Commander and Battalion Personnel Officer (S1. He then returned to train selected captains in the Officer Qualification Course at the Special Warfare Center and School.
