Internships
The Department recommends pursuing an internship opportunity if you are able. Internships are good ways to gain work experience in your field of interest before you graduate. Many internships are non-credited experiences; they are, by definition, non-academic (non-classroom) experiences to which you apply the knowledge you have gained during your academic experience. However, some departments at UNH have carefully crafted credited internships within an academic framework; for these, you must work closely with a professor who directs an academic component of the internship that has been agreed upon and planned in advance of the experience. As an Anthropology major, you could arrange to register for ANTH 700, Internship, if you would like to receive academic credit for your internship. ANTH 700 provides students with supervised practical experience in anthropology in one of the following areas: professional or community support work within an academic or applied anthropology setting; teaching; museum work; archaeological laboratory or fieldwork; research on a faculty research project; or editorial work on a journal or faculty book project. Registration for the course follows normal Registrar’s Office deadlines. Discuss your internship interests with your faculty advisor or a faculty member in the Anthropology Department.
