Tuesday, February 6, 1:00 – 2:00 “Powering Down Technology”
Presented by Janine Jacques, Computer Information Systems Lecturer, University of New Hampshire
Description: It is evident that the new millennium is consuming more and paying a higher premium for energy. Economists suggest that the global demand for energy is a result of the expansion of China and India, the war in Iraq, the hurricanes in the Gulf Coast and the proliferation of powerful computers (Patton 2006). Since the expansion of foreign nations, the conflict in Iraq and Mother Nature are all outside of our immediate control, this discussion will focus on managing the impact of computer technology on the nation’s power consumption.
Janine Jacques has completed a Masters in Business Administration, a Masters in Computer Information Systems and is currently finishing her dissertation requirement for a Ph.D. in Information Systems. With 15 years of industry experience managing technology and staff, Jacques brings her real world experience into the classroom where she teaches Database Management, Information Security, Networking Computers, Technical Project Management, Web Programming and Systems Analysis and Design. Her research interests include; Ubiquitous Computing, Data Center Design, Energy Consumption, Project Management and Technical Trends.
