November meeting minutes were approved

Committee/Liaison Reports:

·        Awards – Carol passed out a proposal for giving awards (not certificates) to people who repeat the same category. Members approved the plan to award:

·        a roller pen to repeaters in the pen/pencil category  and

·        a small clock for repeaters in the tackette category

·        Student Senate – Amelia reported on Student Senate activities surrounded the “Sit Down __” cheer. Senators will distribute a survey on student attitudes and may draft a resolution that reflects student opinion for Senate vote on Feb 18. the AAC had a long discussion about this and concluded that such a resolution might pit the Senate against the Athletic Department.  Everyone wanted to avoid this. It was agreed that Amelia would try to facilitate a meeting between AAC members and the Senate Executive Committee to discuss ways to encourage dialogue and not confrontation over student cheers that offend other fan groups.

Discussion of NCAA Interim Report – AAC members discussed the draft of the NCAA report with Steve Metcalf and Jill Hirshinger, who are leading the “writing” committee. Although the full draft is late in coming, Steve M. promised to have a full version distributed within a week. AAC members discussed two basic points that must be addressed:

·        The need to keep documentation on hand that supports statements that we have completed certain tasks. These documents might be minutes, memoranda, or the like.

·        The need to be careful in explaining why we have not accomplished certain tasks.

Members agreed to work in two subgroups:

Compliance/Academics/Fiscal

Terri Winters

Equity/Welfare

Each subcommittee will work via email, sharing comments on the draft with each other and with Steve Metcalf. If a subcommittee meeting is deemed necessary, Steve H and Pat Gormley will act as conveners. The objective is to provide input to Steve Metcalf so that he can provide the whole AAC with an updated draft at least one week prior to the next meeting on February  26.

The meeting adjourned at 1:45pm. Next meeting on February 26 , 2002.
